In July 2022, Scholastic Inc. recalled the Shake Look Touch books, a moderate toys recall reported by the CPSC. Affected owners are eligible for a repair. Here is what the hazard is and exactly what to do about it.

Official remedy (Repair): Consumers should immediately take the book away from young children and cut the pom poms off the book. Consumers can participate in the recall and receive a $10 gift card by registering online at www.recallrtr.com/slt, submitting a picture of the book and removed pom poms, and affirming that the removed pom poms will be disposed of in the trash. Consumers can use the book after removing and disposing of the pom poms.

The recalled bed rails violate the mandatory standard for adult portable bed rails, because users can become entrapped within the bed rail or between the bed rail and the side of the mattress, posing a serious entrapment hazard and risk of death by asphyxiation. The bed rails do not meet structural stability or retention strap requirements, posing a fall hazard.
